BOSTON – Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren announced she will run for re-election in 2024 for a third six-year term as U.S. Senator beginning in 2025.
In her first election for senator in 2012, Warren received 53 percent of the vote against Scott Brown, who had only served since 2010 when he won a special election for the seat after the death of Ted Kennedy. In her first re-election big, Warren received 60 percent of the vote against Republican challenger Jeff Diehl.
Warren turns 74 years old in June and will be 75 years old by election 2024.
Last week, Warren joined her counterpart in Massachusetts, Senator Ed Markey, and 12 other senators in calling for stricter regulations on the banking industry after recent bank failures.
Warren currently serves on the Committee on Banking, Housing, & Urban Affairs and is chair of its Subcommittee on Economic Policy. She also serves on the Committee of Finance and chairs its Subcommittee on Fiscal Responsibility and Economic Growth, and serves on the Committee on Armed Services and the Special Committee on Aging.
Prior to her election to public office, Warren was a long-time consumer protection advocate. During the Obama administration, Warren was the primary architect of the Federal Consumer Protection Bureau, an independent bureau within the Federal Reserve system. Its purpose is to promote fairness and transparency for mortgages, credit cards, and other consumer financial products and services.
Warren’s campaign released its first campaign advertisement along with the announcement, which can be seen below.
We’ve won some big victories for working families in Massachusetts and across the country, but there’s a lot more to do. So today I’m making it official: I’m running for re-election to keep up the fight. pic.twitter.com/ebG3vJCot3
