WORCESTER – After 12 years in office, the City of Worcester’s Chief Financial Officer Thomas F. Zidelis will retire.

According to sources at City Hall, in early January, Zidelis turned in a 60-day notice to City Manager Ed Augustus, marking another major vacancy in the financial wing of City Hall.

The City’s budget director resigned last year. Zidelis has been serving as acting budget director since.

Zidelis has also been overseeing the City’s assessor’s office after former Assessor William Ford stepped down from his position for the same job in Norwalk, Connecticut just two weeks ago. Assistant Assessor John Valade has been serving as Acting Assessor until the City fills the position.

Zidelis, a member of the City Manager’s cabinet, had worked as the City Treasurer for 14 years prior to his re-hiring as CFO in 2007. He worked as the deputy superintendent of Budget and Finance in the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office for about 15 months before stints at City Hall.

The news of Zidelis’ retirement comes on the heels of others stepping down from their positions at City Hall, including the retirements of City Solicitor David Moore and City Clerk Susan Ledoux.
