4 Popular Worcester Spots Team Up to Throw Massive Block Party on Shrewsbury St.

This Sunday — August 25 — four popular Worcester establishments — Volturno, Simjang, Deadhorse Hill and Wormtown Brewery — will be throwing the Summer at 72 Block Party.

The highlight of the block party is poised to be the double-elimination, bring-your-own partner cornhole tournament. Entry is $60 per team. Teams check-in at 12 PM and bags fly at 1 PM. Prizes go to the top three teams.

Tournament Prizes:

  • 1st: $500 and $100 in Gift Cards
  • 2nd: $200 in Gift Cards
  • 3rd: $100 in Gift Cards

The party will also feature:

  • Food from Volturno & Simjang
  • Wormtown Craft Beer
  • Tito’s Cocktail Camper
  • Raw Bar [Island Creek Oysters, Duxbury]

Soccer Coalition to Make Case for More Fields in City

The Worcester Community Soccer Coalition is calling all residents that have a rooting interest in the sport to come to the city’s Youth, Parks & Recreation Committee meeting on Thursday, Aug. 22 at 5:30 PM to discuss the state of the city’s soccer fields.

The meeting is in the Levi Lincoln North Chamber on the third floor of City Hall.

The committee will be discussing possible steps and financing methods that might be considered to increase the number of soccer fields across the city.

 

Indian Lake to Be Closed on Thursday for Algae Treatment

The city’s DPW has contracted for the application of copper sulfate to Indian Lake on Thursday, Aug.22. The city is advising everyone to stay out of the water, discontinue boat use and fishing, and keep their pets out of the water on this day.

The plan is to reopen the beaches on Friday.

Copper sulfate is a safe and effective way to control the growth of harmful, toxin-producing algae. The application of copper sulfate is a common practice to maintain a healthy lake and poses minimal risk to humans and animals after application is complete.

 

Holmes Field Ribbon Cutting is Thursday

As ThisWeekinWorcester.com reported last week, on Thursday, the City of Worcester will hold a ceremony for renovations made to Holmes Field at 201 Plantation St.
