WORCESTER – The City of Worcester Department of Public Works and Parks (DPW) announced on Tuesday that the Ernest A. Johnson Tunnel will be closed on Wednesday for the next four months.
The tunnel runs from Lincoln Square, under Salisbury Street, to Main Street.
The 16 week closure, until September, will enable construction work on the tunnel, including removing tiled from the ceiling and walls and a comprehensive structural analysis of the tunnel.
DPW also advises residents that construction vehicles and equipment will be in and around tunnel entrances from 7 AM to 3:30 PM throughout the time the tunnel is closed.
