WORCESTER – Police arrested a man on firearm charges after refusing to leave a bar on Shrewsbury Street in Worcester on Sunday, November 28.
Police responded to a call at Funky Murphy’s, at 305 Shrewsbury Street, around 1:25 AM after a report of a man with a gun. Witnesses reported staff refused entry to two men as the bar was closing for the night. One man became aggressive and refused to leave.
As staff escorted the man from the bar, he allegedly made threats to shoot staff and flashed what witnesses said appeared to be a firearm.
Police identified Daniel Mercado, 23, of Marlborough, as a suspect and spotted his vehicle on Shrewsbury Street. After conducting a traffic stop, police say a firearm fell out of Mercado’s pants as they removed him from the vehicle.
Mercado faces charges of
- Assault with a Dangerous Weapon;
- Threatening to Commit a Crime (Murder);
- Improper Storage of a Firearm.
