45-Year-Old Man Indicted for Fitchburg Bank Robbery

BOSTON - A federal grand jury indicted a man for allegedly robbing five banks, including one in Fitchburg.

Reinaldo Ortiz, 45, of Mancheser, NH, face an indictment in Boston on robbing banks in Fitchburg, Lowell, Chelmsford, Wilmington and Lexington, between March 9 and March 22.

According to federal prosecutors, Ortiz entered each bank in a disguise and demanded cash from a teller, then fled with thousands of dollars in a 2006 Honda Accord.

During the investigation, a discarded glove with Ortiz's fingerprints was located outside on of the bank that was robbed. Data collected within his cell phone showed his movement was consistent with 4the route taken to the robbery route.

The charge of bank robbery provides for a sentence of up to 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000.
