Traffic Stop, Foot Pursuit Leads to Gun, Drug Charges

WORCESTER – A traffic stop on Chandler Street by police led to a vehicle crash and foot pursuit on Wednesday, January 19,

Police officers with the Neighborhood Response Team initiated a traffic stop in response to a driver allegedly ignoring several stop signs. The vehicle pulled to the side of the road, but fled onto Queen Street after the officer exited the patrol car.

The driver and passenger fled on foot toward Chandler Street after the vehicle crashed into a parked car on Queen Street.

The officer pursued the driver, later identified as Tremon Walker, 23, of Worcester.

According to the Worcester Police Department, Walker ignored commands to stop and appeared to be holding onto an item in his waistband. As he jumped over a fence, he dropped the object and retrieved it before continuing to flee through properties near Piedmont Street. The pursuit continued on Hawley Street toward Pleasant Street before  Walker surrendered.

A second officer from the Neighborhood Response Team was able to track down the passenger of the vehicle, Darrell Perez, 22, of Worcester.

Walker faces charges of:

  • Improperly Storing a Firearm
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
  • Carrying a Loaded Firearm
  • Possession of Ammunition without and FID Card
  • Disorderly Conduct
  • Disturbing the Peace
  • Operating after a Suspended License
  • Leaving the Scene of Property Damage,
  • Failure to Stop for Police
  • Possession of Class D Substance with Intent to Distribute.

Perez faces charges of:

  • Trespassing
  • Disorderly Conduct
  • Disturbing the Peace
  • Possession of Class D substance with Intent to Distribute
  • Resisting Arrest
