WORCESTER – It’s not necessarily a title the city should strive for, but with six weeks left of winter, Worcester currently sits at the top of the list for Snowiest City in America this year.
So far this winter, the city has received 63.5 inches of snow — about five more inches of snow than Buffalo in second place and 10 more inches than Erie, Penn. in third place — according to the latest standings in the Top 25 Snowiest US Cities in the Golden Snow Globe contest.
The average annual snowfall Worcester typically sees is around 40 inches of snow at this point in the winter. According to the National Weather Service’s current forecast, there’s a good chance we could see more snow over President’s Day weekend too.
However, there’s at least a chance of snow in Buffalo’s forecast for the next three days, so the holiday weekend could prove to be a pivotal turning point in this year’s Snowiest City standings.
Since 2010, Worcester has finished in second place twice (2012-2013 and 2015-2016), never once hoisting the Golden Snow Globe title up.
This could be our year. [Fingers crossed it isn’t.]
