State Police Arrest Worcester Man on Motorcycle with Stolen Handgun

MILLBURY – Late Sunday night, 31-year-old Walter Melendez was arrested after being stopped on his motorcycle by Massachusetts State Police [MSP] troopers for operating a motorcycle without a license and being in possession of an illegal handgun.

According to MSP, around 11:20 PM, troopers responded to call of a group of motorcycles operating erratically on Route 146. 

Troopers observed the motorcycles heading north on Rt. 146.

Melendez, of Worcester, was stopped for motor vehicle violations. He ws found to not be licensed to operate a motor cycle and also found to be in illegal possession of a loaded Ruger 9mm handgun. Melendez is not licensed to carry a firearm. The firearm was also determined to be stolen from a Worcester County residence in 2015.

Melendez was placed under arrest and brought to the State Police Millbury Barracks for booking.

He was charged with the following:

1.            Operate motor vehicle in violation of license class;
2.            Speeding;
3.            Carrying a loaded firearm;
4.            Improperly storing a firearm;
5.            Registration not in possession;
6.            Marked lanes violation;
7.            Carrying a dangerous weapon;
8.            Receiving stolen property.

Melendez was held on $5,040 bail until being arraigned in Worcester District Court.
