WORCESTER – Early Tuesday afternoon, a Worcester Police Detective was involved in a serious three-car crash at the corner of Grove St. and Chester St.

According to the Worcester PD, around 1:15 PM on June 4, the detective called in to dispatch that he had been involved in a motor vehicle accident. Paramedics, fire fighters and WPD officers arrived and used mechanical tools to free the officer from his unmarked cruiser.

The operators of the two other vehicles were treated medically as well.

An initial investigation reveals that the officer was driving the unmarked cruiser south on Grove St when a Subaru Impreza came down Chester St toward Grove St, and did not stop at the stop sign, striking the passenger’s side of the cruiser.

The impact from the Subaru pushed the detective’s car across the yellow line into oncoming traffic coming north on Grove St., resulting in a collision with a Honda Civic.

The cruiser was severely damaged on both sides and the officer was trapped inside.

After being treated by paramedics, the officer was transported to the hospital with several injuries, including a severe eye injury. The driver of the Impreza and the driver of the Civic were also transported to the hospital.

All vehicles involved were towed for processing, and the Crash Reconstruction Unit and Crime Scene Unit arrived to process the scene.

The investigation remains ongoing.
